Nationals League Final Preview

It’s an all-Iberian final in Munich. Two rivals, two completely different styles, and one last shot at silverware. Spain and Portugal go head-to-head this Sunday — and neither side is showing up just to compete. This is for pride, legacy, and momentum heading into the World Cup cycle.

Spain is flying. They tore through France 5-4 in the semifinal, and the score doesn’t even do it justice. It was 5-1 at one point. Lamine Yamal was on fire — two goals, one assist, and confidence like he’s been here a hundred times. Nico Williams was a constant threat down the left, Pedri and Merino were sharp in midfield, and Spain’s high press suffocated the French early. Yes, they nearly let it slip — but when they click, they’re lethal. This isn’t the slow, possession-heavy Spain of old. This version plays fast, vertical, and fearless. Their young core has already shown it can handle the pressure — and now they’re 90 minutes from back-to-back Nations League titles.

Portugal, on the other hand, had a different route. Their 2-1 win over Germany was a lot tighter, but just as impressive. Cristiano Ronaldo came through yet again — goal no. 137 for his country — and proved he’s still a threat in the big moments. But this team isn’t just about him anymore. Bruno Fernandes is the engine, controlling tempo and unlocking lines. Bernardo Silva and Vitinha are running the midfield with precision. João Neves has slotted in seamlessly, and at the back, Rúben Dias is leading with experience and calm. They didn’t blow Germany away, but they controlled the match — and they look like a team that knows exactly who they are. Portugal are compact, clinical, and built for knockout football. This generation is stacked, and they want to bring the Nations League trophy back after losing their grip on it in recent years.

Both teams come into the final with momentum, but in very different ways. Portugal’s experience and structure make them tough to break down, while Spain’s fearless youth and attacking speed have been overwhelming. Given the form of players like Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, Spain look more explosive going forward — and that could make the difference. Expect goals from both sides, but with Spain’s dynamic edge, we see them just edging this one and lifting the Nations League trophy once again.
