Six Nations Week 5 Betting preview 

 

With the last round of the Six Nations taking place this weekend, 'The Don' will take a look at the betting odds, covering both the Ireland vs Scotland and France vs England games.

Ireland vs Scotland  

Ireland have won three out of four matches played. Their first three victories came against France away, and then Italy and Wales at home with the French victory the most impressive. They were away to England last week where they started as double digit favourites but lost a thriller 23-22 to a last minute English drop goal. This puts them at the top of the table with 16 points and realistically they only need a bonus point to take the title. 

Scotland, on the other hand, have won two out of their four games, losing the remaining two. Their victories were against Wales and England, while their losses came from France and Italy, the latter being a narrow defeat by 2 points away from home last week. This leaves them with 11 points, placing them in third position on the table, 5 points behind the Irish.

With both teams coming off recent losses, their upcoming match promises to be a thrilling contest and the handicap looks that bit high to me.

France vs England

In France's four starts, they have secured two wins, one draw, and one loss, accumulating 11 points and placing them in 4th on the table. Their two victories were against Scotland and Wales, both away from home, while their draw came against Italy, and their loss was to Ireland, both matches being on home soil. Their win over Wales last week by 21 points was their best performance of the tournament. 

England, on the other hand, have won three out of their four games, earning 12 points and securing second place on the table, still in contention for the title if Ireland slip up badly against Scotland.  Their victories were against Wales and Ireland at home, and Italy away, with their only loss occurring against Scotland, also away from home where they went down by 9 points.

I am still not convinced this French team are over their World Cup hangover and think an improving England can push them all of the way and possibly even win it.
