Bangladesh vs. New Zealand, 4th T20 8 September 12:00

New Zealand hit back with a 52 run victory in the last T20 on Sunday, keeping their hopes alive in the five match series. The teams go into the fourth match with Bangladesh leading the series 2-1 and the hosts now have the opportunity to secure the series with a victory. It’s very much been a series for the spin bowlers, with the batsman having a hard time at getting runs on the board and you can expect more of the same on Wednesday.

In the match on Sunday New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat. Unsurprisingly, the batsman struggled on the slow Dhaka track as has been the story of this series. They managed to post a total of 128 runs in their 20 overs largely thanks to a sixth-wicket stand of 66 runs by Nicholls and Blundell. Nicholls was the top runs scorer with 36, while Blundell(30) and Ravindra(20) added handy contributions. Saifuddin was the top bowler for the hosts with two wickets and Mahedi, Mahmudullah and Rahman added one each.

The visitors managed to surprise Bangladesh when they came to the crease by attacking them with their own game – spin. Ajaz Patel was the star for New Zealand grabbing four wickets along with Cole McConchie who got three. Serious damage was done by these two and Bangladesh was all out for just 76 runs. Only three batsman managed to get double figures – Naim(13), Das(15) and Rahim(20*) and Bangladesh were left stunned.

Prediction

I think Bangladesh were perhaps a little bit too over confident going into the last clash 2-0 up in the series. This weaker New Zealand team has humbled them slightly and it should spark a much better performance from the hosts this time around. I don’t believe it is likely that New Zealand can win another match here and I think they just happened to catch Bangladesh on an off day in the last match. I expect Bangladesh to return with full strength and win this one comfortably. I think Shakib Al Hasan will star with the bat or ball (or both) for Bangladesh and if he manages to lead his side to victory then I like the chances of him grabbing the man of the match award. New Zealand’s batting has not been great, but there is some good value for Nicholls to be the top run scorer for the visitors which could happen if he has another good knock at the bottom of the order.
